A spalted maple ‘cookie’ slab is the focal point of this low coffee table. Cut across the entire circumference of the tree, a ‘cookie’ shows all of the growth lines and in this case has the irregular perimeter of the original tree. The edge has been burned to provide a dark contrast to the lightly greyed top surface. Cast bronze legs are inset into the bottom while bronze dovetail keys are inlayed into the top to limit the movement of the large natural crack.
