Semicircle Bench

The Semicircle Bench explores the idea of balance. It is the moment when a curve meets either the ground or the top, providing structure or hindering it. An arch is known to be an inherently sturdy shape, yet it is employed in exactly the opposite manner than is expected. This challenges the viewer and sitter to examine the notion of stability, something that is taken for granted in furniture. The arcs and lines are emphasized in the negative space, perhaps filled in by our mind, or better yet left to float between connection and the slightest touch.
